Idk about Yusef in canon, I didn't catch it one way or another, but Muslim's a pretty damn broad category. Narrow it down and then you might want to start playing in that ballpark. As for desi, I've seen it used to describe people of Indian and Pakistani descent. According to the wiki it can also be used for (some) people who are Bangledeshi/Bengali, Sri Lankan, or Nepali. Dileep Rao's parents are from India, if you want to blend actor/character background.
