A post of great scientific magnitude.

Guys, are you ready to hear something shocking? Ready? Are you sitting down?

I LOVE COLIN MORGAN.

Shocking, right? I bet none of you who have ever spoken to me would guess such a closely guarded secret!

Anyway, because I love Colin, I stare a him a lot. And in staring at him, I noticed that the way he smiles at one Bradley James is not the way he smiles at other people. Which is a fact I mention a lot, and eventually people kept going OMG REALLY SHOW ME. And I was like "WELL, IF YOU INSIST". So I present to you my magnum opus of great genius:

Everyone, meet Colin Morgan.

Colin Morgan, as you can see, has a pretty great smile.

One can identify the smile using certain distinct markers:

Common side-effects of witnessing this smile include swooning, sighing, removal of undergarments to fling at Colin Morgan's feet, etc.

It was noted, however, that Colin Morgan has a particular smile that uses in relation to his co-star, Bradley James.

This smile varies from its common cousin in a variety of ways, as diagrammed below:

After careful examination, however, it was revealed that The Bradley Smile, instead of being one homogeneous species, in fact contained two sub-species, the aforementioned smile, and the following smile:

Smile Subspecies B has a few distinct markers that differentiate it from Subspecies A:

Both smiles have, since the beginning of Bradley and Colin's relationship, been present, as evidenced by the following historical study:

A side variant of Subspecies B.

It should be noted that while Subspecies B often stands on its own, Subspecies A is often a prelude to speaking or a failed attempt to contain laughter.

The smiles continued to make their presence known in public situations.

Upon viewing of The Road Trip, it had become clear that subspecies B now had evolved and occasionally displayed a new trait.

This trait can only be scientifically referred to as "besotted/bedroom eyes".

The manifestation of this trait is not deterred by knowledge of an audience, nor by the presence of a small animal that has curled up and died all over Bradley James' face.

The presence of such smiles even in professional and/or public setting indicates that these expressions are involuntary and/or unavoidable.

Perhaps the most fertile ground for smile-spotting exists in the Geek Syndicate Interview of September, 2010.

There are too many instances of each smile to show all of them, however it should be noted that there is a healthy sampling of both Subspecies A...

...as well as Subspecies B.

(There is also lip biting, oh my sweet holy Jesus.)

Indeed, the fond smiles are so common that not even Bradley James is immune in indulging in a few, as he shows by doing a remarkable demonstration of Smile Subspecies B.

For the sake of accuracy, a great deal of effort was put into finding images of Colin Morgan smiling at other people in any way that differs from the Common an General Colin Morgan Smile.

Such searches, however, proved fruitless.

It therefore is logical to infer that both subspecies A and B of smile are Bradley James-specific and indicative of a phenomenon commonly referred to as "hearts in eyes".

And thus, in conclusion:

(Images stolen from all over the fricken-fracken place, most notably from [livejournal.com profile] mrs_leary and [livejournal.com profile] yavannauk's filming pictures. Thanks goes to [livejournal.com profile] wordsindreams and [livejournal.com profile] i_claudia for shameless encouragement and assistance in my highly scientific research, and especially to [livejournal.com profile] i_claudia, who is at least 20% responsible for the totally fucking ridiculous macro, because she uttered the phrase "Bradley and Colin are the best couple of all time" in my presence and that was really just a shamefully easy jumping point to lunacy.)

YOU CONSTANTLY IMPROVE MY QUALITY OF LIFE JULIA. CONSISTENTLY. NEVER WILL I MOVE AWAY FROM HERE. NEVER!

(I know you know I knew I needed something like this, I KNOW THAT, but I clearly didn't know just how much because this made me a loony kind of happy and I feel A MILLION OCEANS WORTH OF TEARS LESS EMO NOW.)

A++ for this research, bb, seriously. Amazing. Loving the very, highly scientific nature of this. There needs to be a proper essay, like University essay, sometime soon on the chemistry of Bradley and Colin. .... I wonder if any of my profs would accept such a paper...

OMG! Awesome! Awww the subspecies B is just SO cute!
Colin has the most adorable smile ever, I love how it lightens all his face!!! <3

BB I WILL NEVER MOVE AWAY SO LONG AS YOU ARE HERE. WE ARE BOUND BY A COMMON THREAD OF FANDOM SISTERHOOD THAT SHALL NEVER DIE.

(When I feel emo and adorable youtube videos of baby animals aren't making me feel better, Colin and Bradley fanvids? ALWAYS DO THE TRICK.)

Someone promised a sociological analysis of their body language at one point, WHICH I EAGERLY AWAIT.

[identity profile] chibirhm.livejournal.com 2010-10-26 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
There is nothing Colin Morgan does which is not PAINFULLY RIDICULOUSLY ADORABLE.

[identity profile] lawgoddess.livejournal.com 2010-10-26 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Aw! This was adorable!

I mean, well done! Very scientific and everything!

Goddamn, he's cute! Also probably in love with his costar. :)

I'm bookmarking this for when I need cheering up.

i love your scientific investigation!!!

trufaxs all of them!!

now we need the Bradley's gazes, bedroom eyes and smiles toward Collin!!

[identity profile] chibirhm.livejournal.com 2010-10-26 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)
It's at 2:37 of the interview, and it is PRECIOUS.

LOL. This was adorable!

I AM IMPRESSED. While I am sitting here avoiding all of my assignments, you voluntarily conduct this research project. The things people do for the sake of science; so ~admirable!

(i.e. I LOVE THIS A WHOLE LOT SHDBJSHD. Also, on the flip side, there's this from Bradley's end:

My scientific research indicates that their adoration is extremely probable.

[identity profile] chibirhm.livejournal.com 2010-10-26 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, girl, it would take YEARS to compile all of those.

[identity profile] chibirhm.livejournal.com 2010-10-26 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
All adorable credit goes to Colin Morgan! I just show him off.

[identity profile] chibirhm.livejournal.com 2010-10-26 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
OMG I KNOWWWWWW. I love Bradley's heart-eyed looks tooooo but there are so many of them that literally I could spend YEARS trying to find them all, plus they are not as distinctive as Colin's. Colin gets a very certain expression. With Bradley you just look at him and KNOW.

[identity profile] yourmanuscript.livejournal.com 2010-10-26 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
THIS IS VERY, VERY TRUE. Basically it'd just be photo after photo of only this one distinctive marker:

Image

It's okay Bradley, we know your ~True Feelings~. :')

[identity profile] chibirhm.livejournal.com 2010-10-26 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
FAAAAAAAAACE.

Oh Bradley and Colin, if you were homework, I would do you all the time.

...what?

[identity profile] kawasakininja.livejournal.com 2010-10-26 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Seeing Colin smile at Bradley makes me smile too. "Besotted eyes" and "Bradley's demonstration of Smile Subspecies B." make me a puddle of goo. I think this will only make me pay even more attention to Colin's smiles. Thank you!

OMG you are clearly one of the most enlightened scientific minds of our time! Congratulations on using science to prove beyond doubt theories that NEEDED proving post haste in order to bring so much joy into our lives! Thank you! much love!!! XXXXXXXXXXX

Guh. Thank you for providing this deep and necessary scientific material. ILUSM.

This really was going on from the very start of Video Diaries, I swear. BUT NOW WE HAVE PROOF. WITH SCIENCE!!!

[identity profile] leviathans-moon.livejournal.com 2010-10-26 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
to be scientifically correct I would have to point out that the amount instances in which Bradley and Colin are publicly seen together does not concur with the amount of instances Colin appears with other people, which would present a problem in comparable data, but

I ABSOLUTELY DON'T FUCKING CARE, I WILL ACCEPT THIS AS THE ABSOLUTE TRUTH AND I LOVE YOU FOR COMPILING ALL THE EVIDENCE AND PRESENTING IT IN SUCH A WONDERFUL WAY AND AT SUCH A FITTING TIME. I SHALL GO TO BED HAPPY. ♥♥♥♥♥
