chibirhmSo I've been keeping this pretty hush-hush since I didn't want to jinx anything, but for the past month or so I've been working very diligently at adopting two little gerbil fellows. I wanted boys this time because I never wanted to be in the position of having only one gerbil, and male gerbils like adding new pups to their little clan, but female gerbils get all BOO YOU WHORE. Anyway, after many weeks of effort, I have taken home two little guys I think you all should meet.
Say hello to my new little fellas! Or as I'm calling them, Senor Scrappy and Senor Tiny, because I cannot decide on names. Originally I'd planned for Senor Scrappy (the brown one on the left) to be Baxter, and Senor Tiny (black one on the right) to be Gus. The problem is, Senor Scrappy is not a Baxter to me. He is, as his name suggests, scrappy, which is why I like him. He's got this streak of black fur down his nose that makes him look like he's been fine-tuning his Mercedes or something, and he's only got half a tail, because he was originally in a slightly neglectful home with a wire cage. NEVER EVER PUT GERBILS IN A WIRE CAGE. They can break off their tails. Like Senor Scrappy. Anyway, due to a slightly rocky babyhood, he's a nervous guy, but he hides it behind quite a lot of bravado and general hamminess when hes in the cage (his favorite trick so far has been "chew a hole in a tissue and stick my head through it, then squeak until someone coos at me"), but when he gets out of the cage he's a little frightened. Though he likes it, because he purrs and nudges your face, he's just sort of terrified of liking it. I felt like the name "Baxter" was too proper for him, like he needed a more rough and tumble dude's dude name, but I'm not sure what it should be.
Senor Tiny is, in fact, REALLY TINY. He's only six weeks old, though, so he won't stay that way. He's an utter lovebug who just wants everyone to cuddle with him (including his brother, who's sometimes like "dude, boundaries"). He is, however, a real little shit when it comes to food. He'll steal out from his brother's mouth ALL THE TIME. Probably because he's so cute he can get away with it. I think Gus fits him just fine, but then again, I think any of the names I've come up with fit him just fine. He's such an affable little creature I could call him Princess Sparkles and I'm pretty sure he'd own that name. I just want his name to go with Senor Scrappy's - I'll refer to them together, and I don't want it to be like "ew, those two names sound weird together".
Anyway, I wasn't going to post anything until I'd decided definitively on names, but I can't. I keep second-guessing myself and being all wishy-washy and wringing my hands over the whole thing, so I'm going to have you guys decide the whole thing, democratic style. NAME THOSE GERBS.

In other news, Merlin was awesome but I don't think I'm going to do any commentary until I see the entirety of the finale because it feels kind of wrong, you know, like pausing a movie halfway and giving a review, and yes, I am working on the Art Nouveau spam, which has gotten completely out of hand and ginormous. But on the plus side, you will come away from it SO EDUCATED it'll be ridiculous. Get excited, y'all!
Edit: JGL's latest tumblr post is entitled "subway makeouts". ARE YOU TAUNTING ME, SIR? Because I'd make out with you in a subway. Or an alleyway. Or really... any way at all.
