HAPPY HOLIDAYS! I AM A HO-HO-HORRIBLE MOTHER.
I should, for legal reasons, state that no gerbils were forced to endure actual Santa hats, I just Photoshopped them on because I like to pretend I'm funny. Also, because I'm home alone and mildly bored - my family went to a friends' house for Christmas Eve, but I had just gotten up from a nap and needed to shower and didn't feel like rushing and didn't feel like being out two nights in a row with lots of loud people and too much food, so I stayed home. Which I'm sure in the long run I'll like the outcome of more, but in the short-term I am super bored.
Anways, good Yuletide wishes upon all ye who celebrate such things, and if you either a) don't or b) are hiding from people and skulking around the internet, so am I! We should chat.
Yeah, that's really all I've got to say.

Date: 2010-12-25 06:51 am (UTC)They are pretty adorable. I've been in love with rodents for a long, long time and met and played with every variety, but gerbils have the biggest hold on my heart. They're much smarter and friendlier than mice, plus they don't pee and poop as much because they're from the desert. But mice are so cuuuuuuuuuuuuute. So cuuuuuuuuuute. Hamsters are the cutest, but the can also be really, really bitey. Rats are marvelous and have amazing personalities, but I just can't get past those tails. Plus, I think with their long, narrow faces, they just aren't as cute. That's a big reason I fell so in love with Charlie, actually. Compared to most gerbils he has a very short, flat face. He looks more like a chinchilla or chipmunk and I like to smoooooosh his little cheeeeeeeks. He doesn't appreciate that so much. But they're such fat little cheeks! The funny thing is, he's not fat, he's just built wide - you can feel his wee bones, he's just a big boy. Gusgus is going to stay little forever. I've told him he's not allowed to grow up. Currently, though, he refuses to listen to me. V. INCONSIDERATE OF HIM.

Date: 2010-12-25 11:48 pm (UTC)I am actually sort of fond of rats because we had rats as classroom pets when I was in fifth-grade? And they were very, very friendly, that is for sure, but I'm with you: the tails still freak me out a little. Booooo.

Heeeeee! Also, oh my gosh, chinchillas! I always go straight to chinchillas in pet stores (when they have them) and just stare at them in a way I imagine is probably slightly disconcerting? They're so cute! So fuzzy! I don't even.

Clearly he needs to be spirited away to Never Neverland so he can become the Gerbil!Lost Boy and fly around besting pirates and making friends with mermaids. LITTLE FOREVER, HOORAY!

Date: 2010-12-26 12:02 am (UTC)After my last gerbil died I seriously considered getting a chinchilla because I was so devastated when my gerbil died and I love them so much but they have such short lives. But chinchillas live, like, fifteen to twenty years. That's like, if I wanted a pet that long-term, I'd get a dog. Plus they take up so much room and I live in a small house. But one day!
Gus does not like being little. Charlie can jump all sorts of places and Gus tries and just ends up scrabbling and flailing and making miserable little squeaks because he wants to be bigger, why isn't he bigger!?!??! Poooooor Gusgus.
